ASUS ROG ZEPHYRUS G14: Compact gaming laptop with RTX 2060
At CES 2020, long before the quarantine began, Asus unveiled the ASUS ROG ZEPHYRUS G14, a compact gaming laptop to please gamers on the laptop.
Asus Zephyrus G14 has a 14-inch screen, has a compact body that is 17.9mm thick and weighs 1.6kg. The bet is successful because it slips easily into the handbag.
On the back cover we find the Asus logo with a fully customizable LED backlight system, but it can be replaced by another logo or an animated GIF thanks to the AniMe Matrix technology. This system consisted of 1215 small white lights with several levels of brightness. Moreover, the manufacturer rolls out its DJ system as it works with music.
Otherwise the body is metal and of good quality, as for the finish it is there. There are still some plastic elements mainly around the screen.
Beautiful screen with two display modes
Regarding the screen, Asus offers the user two modes, one of which is dedicated to fluidity with a refresh rate of 120 Hz in Full HD. The second highlights the quality of graphics with WQHD resolution. This feature is really appreciated, because for a competitive online game we have a responsive and flexible screen, and for single player games we can appreciate the graphics.
AMD / NVIDIA configuration works hard
The data sheet is somewhat impressive for this test template:
– Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS 8-core and 16-pin
– CPU Frequency: 3GHz, 4.3GHz in boost mode
– RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz
– Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q with 6 GB of dedicated GDDR6 memory
– Storage space: 1 TB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD
With such a premium configuration :, we should expect it to be heated as it does on the top of the keyboard and especially by an audible ventilation system. So we recommend playing with a headphone over the ears to ignore it.
Good independence for a gaming laptop
While gaming laptops aren’t quite standard in independence, Asus surprised us with the Zephyrus G14. Thankfully, since it’s a computer that wants to be a nomad with a 14-inch screen. Of course in game mode, don’t expect to exceed 3 hours of gameplay, it’s impossible mission.
On the other hand, for office work, it works very well! On average, it lasts about 6-7 hours depending on your activity (web browsing, video, office) with 50-75% brightness and keyboard backlight deactivating.
The Asus Zephyrus G14 is small in size but tough to play! It performs well and is really tangible compared to its format. It’s also nice to be able to switch between two viewing modes. Also a good surprise is the independence in the office setting, so it is very versatile.
However, it does have some flaws that we can find elsewhere such as the loud cooling system that can be corrected with the headphone, or the lack of brightness when the screen is at 100%.
As a reminder, the price of this laptop starts at 1,399 euros.
