Samsung Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra

Samsung unveils two new premium smartphones equipped with the S Pen

Samsung just announced its new premium smartphones. And here is the Galaxy Note20 and Galaxy Note20 Ultra.

The new Galaxy Note20 range consists of two models. Galaxy Note20 is designed above all for first-time buyers who want to discover a smartphone with a stylus. The Galaxy Note20 Ultra is designed for fans of the range and tech savvy.

For those who are already familiar with this year’s Galaxy S20 lineup. The Galaxy Note20 is basically the Galaxy S20 / S20 + with the S Pen and the Galaxy Note20 Ultra is the Galaxy S20 Ultra with the S Pen. There are of course other differences that will be listed below.

Screens

Samsung Galaxy Note20

All Galaxy S20s offer a Dynamic AMOLED display with Quad HD + definition and 120Hz refresh rate. In the Note range, the Galaxy Note20 will be satisfied with the 6.7-inch Super AMOLED flat screen with Full HD + resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. As against, Galaxy Note20 Ultra offers a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with Quad HD + definition and 120Hz refresh rate.

The Note20 Ultra also has a 240Hz touch sensor to reduce latency at every tap on the screen, and thus is more efficient in games, for example.

While the Galaxy S20 Ultra offers a flat screen, the Note20 Ultra’s screen is curved. When the Galaxy S20 was announced, Samsung was justifying the flat screen because screen technologies had evolved to offer relatively thin bezels. It is no longer necessary to ‘simulate’ the ‘infinity’ screen with curved edges. Samsung seems to have reverted to these options, which is even more strange in that the flat screen makes more sense with the stylus.

In short … everything still works on Android 10 with OneUI 2.5 overlay. At the bottom of the screen, and underneath is the proven ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S.

Inside

Samsung Galaxy Note20 و Note20 Ultra

In its internal components, as on the Galaxy S20 in Europe, we find the 64-bit Exynos 990 octa-core etched at 7 nm. In other markets, you can find Galaxy Note20s with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC. Yes, we are talking about the 865+ and not the 865. Samsung has promised us better improvements, especially in terms of battery life. We remember that the autonomy of the Galaxy S20 with the Exynos 990 and the Galaxy S20 with the Snapdragon 865, was easily 20% of the differences … If we wanted to believe in the improvements, we would have preferred a version with the Qualcomm SoC.

While the Galaxy Note20 will be available as a 4G version or as a 5G version, the Galaxy Note20 Ultra will only be available as a 5G version.

For battery life, Samsung offers a 4300 mAh battery on the Galaxy Note20 and a 4,500 mAh battery on the Galaxy Note20 Ultra. It is reported that the Galaxy S20 Ultra offers a 5000 mAh battery. Obviously, we find fast charging at 25W, Wireless Charging (20W) but also Wireless Charging Sharing with Wireless PowerShare technology that always impresses because of its ability to recharge in Fast Charge.

Stereo speakers and smartphones are compatible with Dolby Atmos.

Photos and videos

Samsung Galaxy Note20

As mentioned above, the Note20 is a variant of the S20 / S20 +. Also, there is the same image block. Thus we find the famous trio consisting of the ultra-wide camera, the standard wide-angle camera and the telephoto camera. On the other hand, there is no TOF Depth Vision sensor on the Note20. Likewise, on the Galaxy Note20, it is not the main sensor that provides the 64MP resolution, but the proximity sensor.

This is because a telephoto viewfinder has the same focal length as the wide-angle lens of a standard camera. Suddenly, to zoom in, the Note20 will be cropped directly into the 64MP photo to output a 12MP photo, allowing 3x hybrid and digital zoom up to 30x. All with the help of of course artificial intelligence.

As was the case with the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the Galaxy Note20 Ultra’s camera block is thicker. If we find the image block in the form of a rectangle, the Galaxy Note20 Ultra offers a main sensor of 108 megapixels with nona-binning technology that makes it possible to merge 9 pixels in 1 thus obtaining 12.4 megapixel output photos. Added to this is a 5x close-up with a 12-megapixel sensor that allows for digital zoom up to 50x. Finally, the classic ultra-wide angle, with a 12MP sensor.

There is no TOF Depth Vision sensor either, but the Galaxy Note20 Ultra has the right to laser autofocus to get better performance in photos and especially in video. Finally, the Galaxy Note20 and Galaxy Note20 Plus both offer the same formula up front with a wide-angle lens, ultra-fast autofocus, and a 10-megapixel sensor.

8K at 24 fps and 4K at 60 fps

Samsung Galaxy Note20 ultra

Much like the Galaxy S20, the Galaxy Note20 is capable of recording up to 8K videos at 24 frames per second. 33 Megapixel 8K images can still be extracted. Besides, we obviously find 4K video recording at 60 fps and slow motion up to 960 fps in Full HD. Note an optical stabilization on this more conventional resolution. The Galaxy Note20 still offers a 1080p Super Steady Camera Action video mode.

Night mode has been improved and can be performed on 30 photos. Finally, there is the one-shot mode. Basically, with just one click, the smartphone takes at least 5 styles of photos (AI Best Moment, Ultra Wide Shot, Live Focus, AI Filter, Smart Crop) and 4 styles of videos (Video Forward and Backward, Video to Front, rear video, original video). Suddenly, you have different types of content at the present moment and can be easily shared on social networks.

S Pen

Samsung Galaxy Note20

The whole point of the Galaxy Note range is clearly the S Pen which fits in the thickness of the smartphone from the bottom edge. We find 4096 pressure levels, Bluetooth with the remote control function but also all the functions that have been inaugurated with the Note10 such as the 6-axis accelerometer which allows for air actions and thus release actions from simple gestures.

The S Pen introduces the same color as the smartphone this year and still delivers around ten hours of battery life with fast charging when stored in the smartphone. Response time revised higher with a latency of just 9ms on the Galaxy Note20 Ultra and 26sec in the Galaxy Note20 versus 42ms on the Galaxy Note10.

The Notes app has also been revised and can be installed on different platforms thus allowing the entered notes to be synced. Small novelty with in-app audio capture, allowing for audio feedback of the notes entered. We always have the ability to convert your handwritten entry into text, and especially be able to export in various formats. Samsung continues its partnership with Microsoft to improve integration with Windows and Office applications.
